About Weed Man
Weed Man is North America's largest franchise lawn care company, founded by Des Rice in Toronto, Ontario in 1970. Over 55+ years, the company has grown to 300+ franchise locations across Canada and the United States, making it one of the most recognized lawn care brands on the continent.
Weed Man's core business is professional lawn treatment — they do not mow lawns. Their services include fertilization programs (custom multi-visit plans), weed control (their namesake specialty), mechanical core aeration, overseeding with high-quality grass seed, grub control, insect control, disease control, and landscape bed weed management.
Each Weed Man franchise is independently owned and operated, with certified technicians who provide lawn assessments and customized treatment plans. They offer a service guarantee — free re-visits between scheduled appointments to address any concerns. In the GTA, Weed Man operates through multiple franchise territories covering Toronto and surrounding areas.
Your Lawn Barber vs Your Lawn Doctor
Trim Gym and Weed Man aren't really competitors — they're complementary. One cuts your grass; the other feeds it. Here's what each does.
Trim Gym = The Barber
We mow your lawn every week, trim all the edges, and blow everything clean. We also handle spring and fall cleanups, sod installation, stump grinding, and basic fertilization.
- Weekly mowing from $50/visit — every price online
- Mowing, trimming, edging, blowing every visit
- No contracts — cancel or skip anytime
- Independent, owner-operated in the East GTA
- Snow removal via The Blizzard Wizard
Weed Man = The Doctor
Weed Man treats what's happening under the surface — soil nutrition, weed prevention, pest control, and disease management. Founded in Toronto by Des Rice in 1970, they've spent 55+ years perfecting lawn treatment science. They don't mow.
- 55+ years, 300+ locations across North America
- Custom fertilization programs
- Weed, grub, insect, and disease control
- Core aeration and overseeding
- Free re-visits between scheduled visits
The best lawns use both. Weed Man feeds, aerates, and protects your lawn from weeds and pests. Trim Gym mows, trims, and cleans it every week. They're the doctor and barber of lawn care — complementary, not competitive. For a comparison with another lawn treatment franchise, see Trim Gym vs Nutri-Lawn.
